  • It'd depend on how many accounts you could convert to pro (or your ad revenue). Course I don't know how many pro accounts there were back when
  • I mean if you did the 15x1000 number, 20k for a 15k income stream is a good return on capital (granted actual income is lower with servers, etc)
  • And also how much 20-30k might lower given the alternative of 0.
  • 521 players logged on this week
  • the other problem you've got is the flash won't work on tables and so you need a bunch of code to try and draw new users
  • tablets rather
  • some of those people, probably a small percentage probably just came to check the news and some are lurkers
  • So xBUFFx, are you going to buy it?
  • Doubt his allowance pays that much
  • the point is: for 20 k you can build a game like this yourself. And you can even make a 1 to 1 clone. Because you can not protect game mechanisms.
  • They will protect names, pictures and so on
  • But if you change this, you can a Youwar that works exactly like weewar.
  • as weewar does not have a very large community and the code is buggy and forces a server restart every so often, you may be better off with something new
  • if you want to earn money though, you need to do something very simple, that forces people to be online as much as possible to sell advertisements.
  • there are so many free games, that people will not pay to play anything they may get for free somewhere else
  • this is roughly my position at the moment
  • it sucks to throw away code that could be refactored but the client needs replacing with something canvas based in stead of flash
  • EA is a big company..and selling an old game like weewar for "pennies" seems like something that woud make no sence..
  • i would think that they would either give it away or just shut it down
  • there's probably a soulless manager type somewhere looking to value add to his bottom line so he promote his own self worth when they shut his studio down
  • so he can
  • maybe they need the money for a retreat so they can bond over synergy and team building
  • :-(
  • I know nothing about online gaming, but there would surely be some legitimate costs involved in transferring files, etc.
  • As a digital artist, if clients want copies of the artwork, it takes me time to collect a project together and to physically arrange the file transit...
  • ...and time, as we know, is money.
  • so you charge 20K to zip a directory and ftp it to someone?
  • even if you copied the files to a flash drive posted it to the other side of the world that's ridiculous
  • There would certainly be legitimate costs involved in transferring ownership, but the physical transfer of digital assets would not be a significant part of that.
  • There could potentially be a nest of copyright and other intellectual property issues to wade through, which I think would be more time consuming / expensive.
  • Preparation of sales contract, etc.
  • Damn you, lawyers! <shakes fist threateningly at someone>
  • What do you call 10,000 lawyers chained together at the bottom of the ocean?....a good start
  • lol

  • bloody spammers, why don't you just die
  • weewar will keep you young and beautiful looking
  • wow its been months
  • or years rather ...
  • my my so they´re shutting this house down
  • Cas!
  • No Daithi, I don't charge clients that sort of money to transfer files. I never said that I did.
  • I was merely stating that even if EA were to just "give" WeeWar away, there would be costs involved.
  • Now, if you'll excuse me I'm off to burn a disc and dream of charging £20k for it, then booking that flight to the Bahamas...
  • Casa.. long time, no see!
  • May 18th - chat pun day, save the date
