My first WW map - "Island X", 1-4 players

It's a small one. Didn't want to be too ambitious on my first attempt

Feedback welcome.

I'm considering adding a base right in the middle (amongst the mountains) to bring that area into play. I think that would make it more interesting.

Also I bumped the base income up to 150, but that may be a bit generous...?

A testing question

A question for experienced map makers.

When creating a new map that is not symmetrical, but where you still desire a degree of balance between the players, it is necessary to test it by playing it. This playing phase can take a while because you are waiting for players to complete their turns. The player’s variable skill both over all and on a given day can greatly influence the out come and bias the test results.

To get around this is it possible to allow the AI bots like ai_ZappBrannigan to fight amongst themselves? They are identical and they respond punctually just being algorithms thus negating this bias mostly.

For example lets say I wished to test a map with three sides Blue, Red and Purple. I add an additional side Yellow and then change the colours of the respective sides. In one corner of the map out of the way of the action and immune to the others I place a single solitary Blue Trooper. The colours of the other three sides pieces and bases are changed. Blue becomes Red, Red become Purple and so on.

Then I start up the game inviting ai_ZappBrannigan as Red, Purple and Yellow. Then every half hour or so I log on and end my turn. I can watch to see how long the battle continues before one of the three sides attains overall dominance. If it is a relatively balanced map then this should only be after many rounds of play.

Choices - bias or not?

Howdy folks,

I have recently slipped momentarily out of retirement and into a couple of games, one of which is a match on Choices http://weewar.com/map/20360

Is it a balanced map?

Baino http://weewar.com/user/Baino had two open rated games on it and I took one. I am winning our game there http://weewar.com/game/389309, but I wondered right away at the start of it if there was FTA (first turn advantage) for blue. Then I noticed that Baino is playing several rated games on the same map and winning all of them, against similarly ranked players. When I started to ask him about it, he didn't respond to my prodding. Then I noticed on Daithi's weespy page that Baino is banned from the WFPU (weewar fair play union).

I then jumped to the conclusion that all of this means that Choices must be bias and that Baino is being dishonest. But this was an error. I apologized and do so again here to Baino for questioning his honour in our game chat, and in the public chat thread. I should have done my homework before jumping to conclusions and making such a big wee-accusation.

As others have pointed out, there is nothing wrong with playing one map over and over again so that you get so good that you defeat all challengers. So long as the map is fair.

Do you think Choices is a fair map? I have never been a good judge until I play a map several times...

Thank you for helping!

New map: Atlantis

Just completed my first version of this new large map, Atlantis. I wanted it to offer similar gameplay enjoyment as the popular Weewarishness map but just be different. Love Weewarishness, but it gets a little repetitive when only that one and a handful of other large maps keep coming up.

Anyway, I started one game already but would love it if someone else could start a game so I can play as a colour other than blue.

If you read this and start a game either reply here or mail me at kaymabo+weewar@gmail.com so I can join in.

Obliged.

Star Wars V1.0

Just released v1.0 of this map.

Thought this could prove an interesting concept. A 3 V 1 map. One player controls the "Death Star" - an island with a mass of neutral bases in the middle. The catch being that this player only has two infantry with which to capture these bases and those infantry have a great many mountains to traverse before reaching the center (representing the time it takes to make the Death Star "fully operational").

Meanwhile the Rebel Alliance has a bunch of ships with which to try and break through to the Death Star and take out the infantry units there (destroy the Death Star).

A few neutral "planets" lie between the Rebels and the Death Star (identify the Star Wars themed planets). Rebels can "recruit" these planets to their cause.

First version. May prove to be horribly unbalanced. Comments welcome. Play-testing even more welcome.

Why no red trooper at start of StirlingXA's map Commando?

Hi all, and Stirling if you're around...

Just wondering after browsing some of Stirlingxa's maps that I never played before, why does the map Commando http://weewar.com/map/38244 start with 2 blue troopers and no red trooper?

Surely red needs a trooper to start with as well, to keep up with blue?

Interested to hear from anyone who's played it.

Or, if anyone wants to play unrated with me, just invite me and we'll see what happens.

thanks,

EG
