Yes it was, actually. The complexity of transports actually led me to rewriting most of the game engine. That was actually a good thing, because the underlying framework is much more flexible now, making it easier to add new features in the future.

Oh, by the way, I saw a chat about Elite Command and someone asked why it's Flash. It's not! View source, dude. All JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

I figured I'd give warnet another shout out since they've implemented another major change. They just added FOG of war to the game today. We are all trying it out now. If you haven't tried the game in a long time, they also added a much needed graphics update a number of months ago. I play both WW and WN. They are similar in some ways, but also very different. If you like Weewar you will probably like warnet. If you want someone to show you the ropes feel free to send me a message in game.

Second the plug for warnet; Balduran has worked miracles and well worth a look.

I guess we don't have to worry about hurting anybody's feelings anymore eh!

Warnet is pretty impressive although I just still can't seem to love it.

now if only warnet and elitecommand could join forces.... engine and graphics by warnet - units and specs by elitecommand.

what are the odds?

warnet graphics are better than elitecommand but i don't particularly like the warnet graphics either. weewar's design is by far the best. the new warnet engine seems to be pretty good though. very fast and less cpu consumption

Hey guys. No feelings hurt here. We really are striving to make Elite Command the best game it can be, and constructive feedback only helps us toward that end.

About the art. While I am satisfied with most of the game art, the artist has expressed interest in overhauling a lot of it. I can see a few things that could definitely be improved. Mountains, woods, mobile flak, and infantry are the ones that pop out to me. Art is such a subjective thing, so please elaborate on what you think would give the game a better look. Style-wise, however, I have to say that I prefer the overall direction of Elite Command's art over both Weewar's cutely-plump little units and Warnet's Exile-esque units (although Warnet has some very nice-looking terrain). But again, art is so subjective.

About the engine. Elite Command's engine underneath the hood is something I would call a work of beauty. As far as interaction goes, however, there are definitely some areas which could be improved. Namely, there is sometimes a pretty long waiting period between giving a command and the server verifying that command, especially in longer games. There are some things that can be done on the back-end to improve the response time, but I'm also toying with the idea of removing the need for server verification altogether before you make your next move. This would require taking randomness out of the battle calculations (or seeding that randomness so that it's predictable on the client side), but besides that, I don't really see a problem with that direction, and it would definitely speed up gameplay quite a bit.

Anyone who's interested in seeing more happen in this increasingly niche world of turn-based strategy games, please let me know what you think of these ideas. We're already having a lot of fun with Elite Command, and we want to see that continue, so we are very open to suggestions.

What is Elite command ?

I just had a look at the home page and it looks a hell of a lot like weewar. Is it just a rip off of weewar that someone has copied the idea of? Is it better then weewar and worth my time?

Dris - I'd be more willing to kick the tires on EC if I could tell the units apart from each other. I just can't tell what's what with the graphics you've got currently. This could be just me.

Also - as I posted int eh forums there, I can't tell the relative unit health values from teh tiny counters. I do like the addition of hte extra infantry types. I think the mechanics work fine too.

For what I saw yesterday I can tell you all I like the idea behind Elite Command. Yet it's not perfect I'll keep an eye on its progress.
