1) Rated is probably a good idea. I don't see what speaks against it. 2) Maps: I leave that to specialists. I do think though that well known (old) maps (that are balanced) might be a better idea than new ones. Just to create and fix all those new maps could take months. 3) Turn length: I like the idea of 3-day maps with possibility to be booted as soon as over. Although that can become slow if both players always use almost 3 days. So 1-day games with permission to go over at most 2 days (for that weekend in between) is maybe a better idea. Anything faster is against the weewar's PBT spirit, I feel. 4) If ties are allowed then one should rather get 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. Ties should not be encouraged. I think I'd prefer the DFA-showdown better though. The randomness of that one will discourage safety-play ties even more. I like the round-robin style beginning with eliminatory finals after. Stirling's idea of full season playing should probably be it's own "tournament" and will probably take more than a year (or a season) to complete. Just look at the 2010 tournament which didn't even have round-robins and barely managed to finish within a year. Just saying. I'd encourage Stirling to start the season as a parallel event and would love to play in it too. Of course, it's the tournament makers choice if they are in it for the long haul and more interested in a "season" rather than a "tournament" (as I'd call it). Either way: Cool! Thanks for starting the initiative. TD |

I'm in! Rated of course is the way to go. Also, Stirling's format sounds good to me.
Seeding sucks, I'd rather play randomly rated players throughout the tourney.

i'll defer to the desires of others, but i imagine something smallish (between the size of aruba and jovana's), but dynamic, with air and naval units involved to some degree, but probably a land-focused map for the round robin (maybe a water map in the quarters or semis? perhaps the last two should choose where they will play their final match?). doesn't have to include all terrain types, but perhaps go with one or two as a theme? up to you really. you are the master map maker. it will be nice to have another balanced small map to play after the tournament as well.

Months? Oh no. More like 1-2 hours per map for creation and balancing. I just need the kernels/seeds for the map. 1:47 pm City Park I published 2:17 pm - sorry for the delay, had to take a turn.
http://www.weewar.com/map/57733 republished 3:19 pm No comments on balance/playability yet Rapid Fire published 2:30 pm - No turns taken, but did have a map edit error and had to remove some units.
http://www.weewar.com/map/57739 republished due to a missing red unit No comments on balance/playability yet Alto Strait published 2:54 pm - It took longer to downsize the map and since the original wasn't symmetric and the map editor doesn't account for my large screen, editing was slower than normal. http://www.weewar.com/map/57740 republished No comments on balance/playability yet This message was edited 6 times. My poor brain couldn't keep up after "I would have been...", but if Stirling recommends something, (insert Picard actionable)!
Count me in. I'll miss you, rating *sniff*

i'm okay with rated games. and i liked that last year's tourney used lesser played maps. for map selection, i like the idea of one player picking a map from two options set forth by the committee and the other the color. maybe 1 day limits with 1 48 hour time out per 10 rounds. player must log into the forums and post a time out request within their 1 day plus 36 hour window. all players must accept that decisions to forfeit games based on time are solely the jurisdiction of the committee. a player has no option in extending their opponent's time limit. i'm okay with coin flipping tie breaks. |
